Karl Friedrich Morell

Karl Friedrich Morell , also Carl Friedrich Morell, (born September 6, 1759 in Wangen an der Aare in the canton of Bern , † March 24, 1816 in Bern ) was a Swiss botanist , chemist and pharmacist .

Life

Karl Friedrich Morell was born as the second son of the land clerk Abraham Morell from Wangen in the canton of Bern. He received his training in chemistry and pharmacy at the University of Göttingen , in Paris , as a student of Lavoisier , and finally in the Spielmann pharmacy ( Pharmacie du Cerf ) in Strasbourg .

As the owner of a pharmacy in his hometown, he made a contribution to deepening and disseminating chemical knowledge and was also active in research and teaching in the field of botany. For his work Chemical investigation of some… Gesundbrunnen und Bäder der Schweiz (1788), he received special recognition from both the professional world and the Bern government. His services to founding the Society of Friends of Nature in Bern (1786), the Medical Institute and the botanical garden in Bern were remembered long after his death.

The architect and royal Bavarian building officer Bernhard Morell was a son of Karl Friedrich Morell; another son, Karl, worked as a merchant in Trieste .
