Karl Friedrich Passow

Karl Friedrich Passow (born April 1, 1798 in Sternberg ; † November 7, 1860 in Berlin ) was a German philologist and teacher .

Life

Born as the son of a consistorial councilor and superintendent as well as the brother of Franz Passow , he went to the Conradinum in Jenkau near Danzig from 1811 to 1814 and attended the Friedrichswerder grammar school in Berlin until 1815 . On the St. Maria Magdalena School in Breslau he completed his schooling 1817th He then studied philology in Breslau. During his studies in 1819 he was one of the founders of the old Breslau fraternity Arminia , of which he became editor and head of the statutes. In 1820 he became an honorary member of the Berlin fraternity Arminia / Herminen . He passed his exam and was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD .

After positions as a candidate for teacher training, extraordinary assistant teacher and member of the educational seminar at the Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster in Berlin, he was proposed in 1822 by the Berlin magistrate as senior teacher and collaborator. Due to a denunciation , however, he was interrogated for his fraternity activities in 1822 and suspended as a teacher. After submitting a declaration of repentance, he became an associate teacher in 1824, then a senior teacher at the Friedrichswerder high school in Berlin. In 1828 he was appointed professor and went to the Joachimsthaler Gymnasium as a senior teacher and collaborator . He taught Greek, Latin, German, history and geography. In 1860 he was appointed first professor. Passow had five children, including Arnold Passow .
