Karl Haberland

Karl Haberland , also: Carl (* May 20, 1863 in Wurzen ; † May 18, 1938 in Wuppertal ) was a German social democratic politician.

Life

Haberland was a trained tailor and worked as a journeyman until 1886 . After that he was an independent master tailor in Barmen until 1897 . In the 1880s he was a co-founder and member of the board of the independent tailors' association in Barmen. Between 1897 and 1905 Haberland was an employee of the AOK Barmen. Between 1894 and 1895 and between 1902 and 1905 he was chairman of the local union cartel . In addition, Haberland was a committee member of the State Insurance Institute for the Rhine Province from 1895 to 1900 . In 1905 and 1906 he was an employee of the "Free Press" in Barmen. After that, until his retirement in 1927, he was full-time party secretary for the SPD district of Niederrhein, initially based in Barmen and from 1924 in Düsseldorf .

Haberland was also a member of the central SPD party committee and at times a board member of the SPD in Barmen. He was also there from 1910 to 1924 and since 1929 a member of the city council.

Since 1898 Haberland ran several unsuccessful candidates for a seat in the Reichstag . He was a member of parliament for the first time in 1906 and 1907. In 1911 and 1912 he was only a member of the legislative period. After that he was a member of the Reichstag until 1918. After the November Revolution, Haberland belonged to the constituent Prussian state assembly from 1919 to 1921 and then to the Prussian state parliament until 1928 .

In 1920 he was a member of parliament for Barmen in the provincial parliament of the Prussian Rhine Province .

His son Karl Haberland (1893–1978) was the mayor of Solingen.
