Karl Hillert

Karl Hillert (born January 19, 1927 in Berlin-Rahnsdorf ; † January 8, 2004 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor , graphic artist and painter .

Life

From 1949 to 1955 he studied at the Berlin School of Fine Arts . He was a master student of Renée Sintenis . From 1955 he worked as a freelance artist and joined the Association of Visual Artists. He worked as a lecturer at the company academy for the printing industry. He was offered a guest professorship at the Berlin University of the Arts , but this was forbidden to him during the GDR era. He was only able to accept the professorship in 1990.

Karl Hillert is buried in the Evangelical Cemetery of the Rahnsdorf-Wilhelmshagen community (Saarower Weg 51, Department C).

A number of his works are in public space in Berlin, including the sheet steel sculpture Daphne in Köpenick since 1995 . A female torso from 1982 stands in the park of Köpenick Castle . The Marzahn Promenade is adorned with a bronze monument to the builders of Marzahn , which he created in 1988 with the help of Karl-Günter Möpert .

His works were bought by the Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen in Magdeburg , the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig , and the University of Leipzig ; they are in the collection of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in Schloss Köpenick , in the Staatliche Museen Baden-Württemberg and the Märkisches Museum Berlin.

Exhibitions

During his lifetime, Hillert showed his works from 1982 in the GDR and in Berlin in solo exhibitions, including 1982 in the Marienkirche in Berlin and in 1994 in an exhibition of the Association of Berlin Artists. He participated in group exhibitions in Stockholm , Warsaw , Prague , Bucharest and Mexico .

In 2005 a commemorative exhibition of his works was shown in the Pankower Galerie Pohl.
