Karl Hilsenbek

Karl Hilsenbek (born October 19, 1957 in Ellwangen (Jagst) ) is a non-party German local politician . From 2003 to 2019 he was Lord Mayor of the large district town of Ellwangen .

Career

Hilsenbek grew up in the Rotenbach district of Ellwang . After graduating from secondary school in 1973, he attended the one-year vocational school for public administration in Aalen , from which he graduated with a technical college entrance qualification. From 1976 to 1978 he studied at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Stuttgart . From 1978 he was an administrative officer in the district office of the Ostalb district in Aalen. In 1986, at the age of 28, he was elected mayor of the municipality of Böbingen an der Rems and was re-elected twice in the following years.

After the Mayor of Ellwang , Hans-Helmut Dieterich, announced that he would no longer stand in the 2003 election, Hilsenbek ran as Dieterich's successor in his hometown. In the second ballot, he prevailed with 47.55 percent of the vote (turnout: 57.44 percent) against his competitors, the Schömberg mayor Gerhard Vogel (CDU) and the Mayor of Westhausen , Herbert Witzany (free voters). On July 19, 2003, he took up the post of Lord Mayor of Ellwang. In 2011 he was confirmed in office for a further eight years with 97.7 percent of the vote (voter turnout: 29.1 percent) unopposed.

In January 2019, Hilsenbek announced at a city event that it would forego a third term and not run again. On July 19, 2019, he resigned from the office of Lord Mayor. His successor was the previous mayor of Bühlertanner , Michael Dambacher.

Karl Hilsenbek is non-party . As a member of the district council of the Ostalb district, he belongs to the faction of free voters .

Hilsenbek is a member of the Board of Directors of the Kreissparkasse Ostalb .

Private

Hilsenbek is married and has two children. He is also a long-distance runner . In 2007 he took part in the New York City Marathon and finished 596th with 2:57:10 hours. At the Amsterdam Marathon 2008 he finished 7th in his age group with 2:57:05 hours and placed 195th in the overall standings.
