Karl Himmelstoss

Karl Himmelstoss , also Karl Himmelstoss (born December 7, 1872 in Breslau , German Empire , † March 1967 in Munich ) was a German sculptor and porcelain maker .

Life

Karl Himmelstoss made architectural and small sculptures. From 1912 to 1938 he designed the second highest number of figures for the porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal , only Ferdinand Liebermann designed more figures in the founding years of the art department of the factory in Selb . In addition, Himmelstoss worked for Heinrich Porzellan , the porcelain factory Lorenz Hutschenreuther , the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin and the Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg . He found his final resting place at the Obermenzing forest cemetery in Munich.

Himmelstoss became known for works such as Verliebt (Faun and Butterfly, 1912), Festreigen (base of a table lamp, model no. K210, 1917) and an ashtray with a Turk (model no. K 628, 1923). He was also known for his naturalistic depictions of animals. Other of his works were titled:

There is a war memorial from 1929 made by Himmelstoss at Bahnhofstrasse 23D in Gauting . For the sculpting work on the war memorial on the Rohrbühl in Münchberg , models by Himmelstoss were used.
