Karl Kälin (politician)

Karl Kälin (born June 12, 1874 in Einsiedeln ; † July 3, 1959 there , entitled to live in Einsiedeln) was a Swiss politician (CVP) .

biography

Karl Kälin was born on June 12th, 1874 in Einsiedeln as the son of councilor Josef Kälin. After graduating from school in Einsiedeln, Karl Kälin was in charge of a sawmill including an attached timber business, a large farm and an inn.

Karl Kälin married Ersilia nee Maier in 1907. He died on July 3, 1959, three weeks after reaching the age of 85 in his native city of Einsiedeln.

Political career

Karl Kälin, a member of the Christian Democratic People's Party, was elected to the Einsiedler district council at the beginning of his political career in 1904 , to which he belonged until 1922 and which he chaired from 1920 as district administrator. At the same time, he sat on the Cantonal Council between 1912 and 1920 . After his election to the Schwyz government council in 1922, on which he was represented until 1928, Karl Kälin was made head of the building department. In addition, he officiated from 1926 as Landammann .

During Kälin's reign from 1925 to 1926, the construction of the government building and the renovation of the armory in Schwyz and the salt stores in Bäch and Siebnen fell . During the construction of the Wägital power plant , he represented the interests of the canton and the March district and led the negotiations in the concession agreement for the Etzel plant .
