Karl Kiefer (theologian)

Karl Kiefer (born December 14, 1866 in Herrieden , Middle Franconia ; † April 25, 1940 ) was a Roman Catholic German theologian and capitular vicar of the diocese of Eichstätt .

Kiefer was ordained a priest on March 15, 1891 . In 1893 he became an assistant in the Episcopal Seminary , and in 1894 Dr. theol. doctorate and in the same year appointed professor for pastoral theology and for moral theology at the Episcopal Lyceum Eichstätt . From 1899 to 1924 he was Regens in charge of the seminary in Eichstätt and, as rector of the high school, he was in charge of the university at which the prospective priests studied. In 1906 Kiefer became cathedral capitular and in 1926 cathedral dean in the diocese of Eichstätt. After the death of Eichstatt Bishop Johannes Leo von Mergel , he was elected vicar capitular on June 20, 1932. On October 26, 1932, he was appointed vicar general by the new Eichstätt Bishop Konrad Graf von Preysing . When Bishop Preysing became Bishop of Berlin three years later , Kiefer was re-elected as Capitular Vicar on August 31, 1935.

Karl Kiefer was a professor (until 1895 lecturer ) at the Eichstätt Lyceum from 1893 to 1938 . In these 45 years he taught the following subjects: from 1893 to 1894 rubricistics and liturgical exercises, from 1894 to 1895 philosophy , from 1895 to 1933 moral theology, from 1896 to 1907 homiletics , in 1900 dogmatics , from 1907 to 1938 pastoral theology, from 1909 to 1910 and from 1911 to 1912 canon law and from 1910 to 1912 and from 1915 to 1916 catechetics . In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .
