His parents were the Danish captain Kaspar von Krockow (* 1670; † 11 January 1731), heir to Peest A, and his wife Sylvia Juliane, née von Haunold († 1734), widow of Lord von Briren. His sister Maria Charlotte († 1750) was the wife of General Adam Joachim von Podewils .

Military career

After Krockow was homeschooled, he went to the University of Halle . However, he did not finish his studies, but preferred a career in the military. As a volunteer he joined the cuirassier regiment "von Anhalt-Dessau" of the Prussian Army and advanced to major by 1738 . In 1741 he was in the camp in Genthin and later near Gröningen . On November 18, 1741, he became a lieutenant colonel . In 1743 he temporarily volunteered in the Austrian army to fight the French. In 1745 he was promoted to colonel under Leopold von Anhalt . In October 1745 he became commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Buddenbrock" and received the official team of Giebichenstein and Moritzburg. On December 8, 1750 he was promoted to major general and given part of the Mahlendorf manor in Silesia .

In the Seven Years' War Krockow joined the army under Schwerin in Bohemia and moved into winter quarters in Silesia. Field Marshal Wilhelm Dietrich von Buddenbrock died in March 1757 and Krockow received his cuirassier regiment. He fought on May 6, 1757 in the Battle of Prague and on June 18 at Kolin . The regiment came to the King's army in Lusatia , later it moved again to Silesia to fight with the Duke of Bevern against the Austrians. During the fighting, his horse was shot and a shrapnel hit Krockow in the foot, which should cause him constant pain from then on.

Still, he was at the head of the regiment when it was used on the left wing in the Battle of Leuthen . In the battle of Hochkirch Krockow fought with the cuirassier regiment "Jung-Schönaich" against the advancing Austrians. There, however, he was shot in the shoulder at the beginning of the battle. He refused to be bandaged and fought until he fell off his horse. Krockow initially remained lying there as if he were dead and was later found by his soldiers and first brought to Bautzen . From there he came to Schweidnitz. His wound became infected and he died there on February 25, 1759.
