Karl Klein (* 31 January 1956 in Hockenheim ) is a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

Karl Klein grew up in Reilingen , where his brother Walter Klein was mayor from 1997 to 2013. After the technical college entrance qualification he studied at the technical college for public administration in Kehl . In 1978 he passed the state examination for a degree in administrative management (FH) . From 1979 to 1992 he was the main office manager in the community of St. Leon-Rot .

Political activity

For the first time, Karl Klein was elected mayor of the community of Mühlhausen im Kraichgau in 1992, then in 2000 and 2008 (in the last two elections in each case without opposing candidates) . In 2011 he announced his resignation from office at the end of the same year. As part of his farewell by the community of Mühlhausen on February 8, 2012, he was awarded the "Freiherr-vom-Stein-Medal", the highest award of the community day of Baden-Württemberg.

In 1994 he became a member of the district assembly of the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis , to which he belonged until 2009. In 1994 he was elected deputy chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group. He is also a member of the Rhein-Neckar Region Association . From 2000 he was an assessor in the CDU district board and the local political association of the CDU Rhein-Neckar. Also from 2000 until the end of his term of office as mayor, Karl Klein was deputy chairman of the mayors in the Rhein-Neckar district. In addition, since 2000 he was a member of the state board of the Baden-Württemberg municipal council .

In the state elections on March 26, 2006 , Karl Klein in constituency 37 (Wiesloch) was elected as the successor to State Secretary Michael Sieber in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . In the state elections on March 27, 2011 and March 13, 2016 , he was re-elected to the Baden-Württemberg state parliament. In July 2012 he was elected chairman of the finance and economic committee of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg. The chairman of the CDU community association Dielheim , the lawyer Theo Sauer, was elected as a substitute candidate in both elections .

Karl Klein is the district chairman of the CDU-Rhein-Neckar, he succeeded Stephan Harbarth , who resigned from his office when he was elected Federal Constitutional Judge.

Family and private

Karl Klein is Catholic . He is married and has two children, a son and a daughter. His son Christian Klein has been CEO of SAP since October 11, 2019 . Karl Klein lives in Mühlhausen and is involved in numerous cultural, social and sports clubs as well as in the Kolping Family . From 1994 to 2011 he was chairman of the DRK local association.
