Karl Wilhelm Eduard Krüger (mostly Karl Krüger ; born March 31, 1837 in Arnswalde, today Choszczno ; † May 10, 1923 in Berlin-Karlshorst ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran pastor and local researcher .

Life

Karl Krüger was from 1878 to 1911 senior pastor at the Evangelical City Church in Lieberose .

Karl Krüger, son of the teacher Karl Wilhelm Eduard Krüger and his wife Julie Charlotte, née Zänkert, worked as a pastor after studying theology and ordination, first in Bernsee (now Breń ) and later in Friedersdorf near Dobrilugk . From 1878 to 1911 he was then senior pastor of the first pastor ( pastor primarius ) at the Evangelical City Church in Lieberose . Until 1909 he also acted as Lieberoser local school inspector . He was married to Helene Elisabeth Krüger nee Berg.

Karl Krüger worked intensively as a local researcher and with his book Alt-Lieberose , which he self- published, became the nestor of Lieberose city historiography. The first edition appeared in 1892 under the title messages from the history of the city of Lieberose and the area, initially until 1700 , a second, revised and significantly expanded ("continued into the new era") edition then in 1904 under the title Alt-Lieberose. Messages from the history of Lieberose and the area . Krüger has the merit of having arranged and evaluated the written, oral and tangible news from the place and region for the first time in an overall view. It is possible that he also used the historical studies of the Lieberoser deacon from 1819 to 1855, Karl Heinrich Busch. From today's point of view, in addition to a whole series of speculations without reliable sources , the sharp anti-Catholic style and the clearly German-national features of his book Alt-Lieberose give cause for criticism. For example, Krüger tried to use the number of family names to prove that Lieberose had been more populated and shaped by Germans than by Wends in earlier times .

Pastor Karl Krüger died on May 10, 1923. He is buried in the Lieberos cemetery.

Honors

In 1903 the town of Lieberose granted him honorary citizenship for his local history . On the ruins of the town church, which was badly damaged at the end of the Second World War , the Lieberose Association has put a memorial plaque for Krüger.
