Karl Kupisch (born February 14, 1903 in Berlin ; † October 23, 1982 ibid) was a German Protestant church historian.

Life

Kupisch studied German, history and theology at the University of Berlin , and in 1938 for Dr. phil. PhD . After a few years in school he was a lecturer at the Church University of Berlin from 1946 , from 1951 professor for church history, from 1955 honorary professor for general religious and intellectual history at the Technical University of Berlin . From 1959 to 1961 Kupisch was rector of the church college.

His presentation of recent church history is characterized by its critical and overall historical approach: “As far as the overall view of this church history is concerned, I want to leave no doubt that I am with the view that has been widely practiced up to now that a history book intended for home and school like a swept-in staircase would have to work, have broken radically. The popular and “pedagogical point of view” of the church's history of representation was very damaging to the fact that it was believed that theologically uneducated readers should be led into a kind of church hall of fame or guided to a walk through a church avenue of victory. "

Honors
