Karl Ludwig Grave
Karl Ludwig Grave (born July 2, 1784 in Riga ; † January 3, 1840 there ) was a German clergyman and educator in Livonia .
Life
Karl Ludwig Grave came from one of the oldest patrician families in the Livonian capital Riga. His father was Ludwig Grave (* unknown; † August 1796), a merchant and senior man of the great guild , the Mariengilde, which had its seat in the House of the Blackheads in Riga. His mother was Johanna Sophia geb. Schwartz, widowed Dyrssen. His sister Gertrud Hedwig Grave (1770–1846) was married to the later general superintendent of Livonia, Karl Gottlob Sonntag (1765–1827).
Grave initially received lessons from private tutors and later attended the cathedral school in Riga. After graduating from school, he studied from 1803 to 1805 at the newly established university in Dorpat . From 1805 to 1808 he continued his studies at the Georg August University in Göttingen . There he qualified as a doctor of philosophy on March 12, 1808 after completing his theological and philosophical studies .
After returning to Riga in 1808, he became an adjunct of his brother-in-law Karl Gottlob Sonntag in 1809 , who led the pastorate alone in addition to his position as general superintendent. In 1811 Karl Ludwig Grave took over the pastorate at the Church of St. Jakob .
In 1817 he became a senior teacher for religion, Greek and Hebrew language at the high school in Riga. From June 1828 to March 1829 Karl Ludwig Grave took over as the headmaster of the grammar school.
From 1818 to 1818 he published the " Magazine for Protestant Preachers Excellent in the Russian Empire ".
On March 7, 1834, he celebrated his preaching anniversary.
In 1835 he entered the Livonian Provincial Consistory .
After his death, Christian August Berkholz succeeded him as senior pastor.

Grave was born on November 20, 1810 with Maria Henrietta (* August 21, 1791 - February 15, 1877). von Lenz, sister of Johann Reinhold von Lenz , married. They had eight children together:

- Director of the literary-practical citizens' association
- Member of the Livonian Cholera, Widows and Orphans Commission;
- President of the Society for the History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia ;
- Board member of several widow foundations.
