Since the statute of 1832 there were six consistorial districts, each with a provincial consistory , which was headed by a president together with a spiritual vice-president. At the same time, as the general superintendent, the vice-president was the spiritual superior of the provosts or superintendent and other clergymen. All provincial consistories were subordinate to theEvangelical Lutheran General Consistory .
