Karl Markut
Karl Markut (born June 26, 1954 in Wolfsberg ) is an Austrian construction technician and politician (formerly Team Stronach , formerly SPÖ ). He was a member of the Carinthian state parliament from 1997 to 1999 and 2004 to 2009 and has been the mayor of Sankt Georgen im Lavanttal since 2003 . He was convicted of fraudulent krida and infidelity .
education and profession
Karl Markut completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman after primary and secondary school and also attended a construction school.
Markut was self-employed as a construction technician, but gave up his civilian profession in 1996 when he was elected to the Carinthian state parliament.
politics
Between April 1985 and December 1990, Markut was a member of the municipal council and council in Sankt Paul im Lavanttal . After Sankt Georgen was raised to its own municipality, Markut was government commissioner in Sankt Georgen im Lavanttal from January 1991 to April 1991 and was elected mayor of the municipality on April 12, 1991. Between March 3, 1997 and April 8, 1999, he represented the SPÖ for the first time in the Carinthian state parliament and was a member of the committees on transport policy and road construction, agriculture and forestry, environmental policy and community policy, as well as tourism and trade. On March 21, 2004 he was sworn in again as a member of the state parliament. He was also on this day the club chairman elected the SPÖ parliamentary clubs. After Gabriele Schaunig-Kandut was elected SPÖ state party leader on October 30, 2005, Markut was subsequently replaced on November 23, 2005 by Peter Kaiser as SPÖ club chairman.
Markut, district party chairman in the Wolfsberg district since 2001 , resigned from all party offices in May 2008. He did not run again for a mandate in the state parliament.
At the beginning of 2013 he moved to the Stronach team for Carinthia , for which he acted as “team manager” in the 2013 Carinthian state elections .
In response to his conviction , Markut resigned from the Stronach team, but refuses to resign as mayor.
Convicted of infidelity and fraudulent krida
On March 4, 2016, Markut was sentenced to twelve months' conditional imprisonment and a fine (360 daily rates of 93 euros each) for infidelity and fraudulent crime . In addition, he also has to pay damages, whereby Markut recognized 95,000 euros in damage in the process.
The public prosecutor's office accused Markut of having, as managing director of Wigo-Haus, in some cases privately demanded money from customers so that he could grant them a discount on house construction. He is also said to have made an unjustified waiver of a claim. Markut confessed in the course of the trial and accepted the judgment. The public prosecutor's office also declined to appeal. The judgment is therefore final.
Private
Markut is married and has two sons and a daughter. He lives in Sankt Georgen in Lavanttal .
