Karl Pöschel (born January 20, 1931 in Leisnig ; † December 4, 2006 ) was a football player from the GDR .

Athletic career

Pöschel began his football career in 1945 in his hometown Leisnig, where he last played for BSG Motor Leisnig. In 1952, at the age of 21, on the recommendation of the Lauterer trainer Walter Fritzsch, he moved to the upper league promoted BSG Empor Lauter . By October 1954 Pöschel had played 42 league games for Lauter.

When the Empor Lauter players were delegated to the newly founded SC Empor Rostock in November 1954 , he went as one of twelve Lauter players from the Ore Mountains to the Baltic coast. When SC Empor Rostock played their first league game against Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt in the Ostseestadion on November 14, 1954 , Pöschel was on the starting line-up. In the 1956 season he rose with Empor Rostock as the bottom of the league table and managed the direct rise in the following year. Pöschel was involved with 23 point games. He played for Empor Rostock until 1961, completed 93 league games with four goals and was used in 19 cup games (one goal).

During his time in Rostock Pöschel was twice in the final of the FDGB Cup . In 1955 Empor failed against SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt with 2: 3 after extra time. As a left winger, Pöschel equalized to 2: 2 in the meantime. In 1957 Empor was again in the final as the second division and this time lost to SC Lok Leipzig with 1: 2 after extra time with Pöschel as the right runner . In 1960 Empor was in the FDGB Cup final for the third time and lost again - but this time Pöschel was not used.

In the summer of 1961 Pöschel left after seven years Empor Rostock and went to ASK Vorwärts Rostock in the third-class II. GDR league . In the first season he rose with his new team in the first GDR league . In 1964 he had to end his career due to an injury.

In 1967 Pöschel returned to his previous club, which had been restructured in 1965 by separating the soccer section from the sports club into FC Hansa Rostock. There he was trained as a qualified sports teacher in addition to his work at the Rostock children's and youth sports school, trainer for the offspring and later team leader of the first team. In the 1970s he was deputy club chairman under Ernst-Moritz Pahnke.

Karl Pöschel died in December 2006 at the age of 75.
