Karl Roth von Schreckenstein
Karl Heinrich Leopold Freiherr Roth von Schreckenstein (born October 31, 1823 in Donaueschingen , † June 19, 1894 in Karlsruhe ) was a German archivist and historian .
Life path
Karl Roth von Schreckenstein came from the Roth von Schreckenstein family . After attending the Lyceum in Mannheim studied at the University of Heidelberg (member of the Corps Palatia Heidelberg and Saxo-Borussia ). In 1844 he left the university and joined the Württemberg cavalry regiment in Ludwigsburg, which was then garrisoned in Ludwigsburg, where he remained until 1858, at last as captain . In addition, he devoted himself to historical studies. In 1857 he was awarded a PhD at the University of Tübingen (member of the Corps Suevia Tübingen ). phil. PhD. In 1859 he became the second director and archivist of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg, in 1862 he became head of the house archives of Prince zu Fürstenberg in Donaueschingen , before he was appointed director of the Grand Ducal Baden General State Archives in Karlsruhe in 1868 . In 1885 he retired.
From 1856 he worked on Johann Siebmacher's book of arms . In the years 1859 to 1886 he dealt as an author with the history of the imperial knighthood and created works on the Franconian-Swabian national history.
Roth von Schreckenstein was chamberlain for the Grand Duke of Baden . He was married to Philippine von Hornstein. He had a son and five daughters.
