life and career

Karl Sadleder was born on March 5, 1883 in the Upper Austrian capital Linz, the son of a coal merchant . In his hometown he graduated from the commercial academy and subsequently entered his father's business, which he again took over as sole owner in 1906. Over the years he also bought into other companies, including the Linz company Brüder Jessl KG, which is still in existence today and founded in 1879 . From 1913 Sadleder worked as a member of the German National Party of Austria in the Linz municipal council and was in charge during the First World Warthe municipal food office, which was introduced by his later predecessor as mayor, Franz Dinghofer . Under the same leadership, he also acted as Vice Mayor from 1915 to 1918, before serving as the provisional mayor of Linz from November 25, 1918 to June 11, 1919. He was also a member of the provisional provincial assembly of Upper Austria , which was convened after the end of the First World War, from November 18, 1918 to May 15, 1919 . As mayor, Sadleder was a member of the German Freedom and Order Party .

After his tenure, he was then from June 11 to December 29, 1919 in the Linz city council and behind the new mayor Josef Dametz of the SDAP again until 1923 Vice Mayor (third mayor) of Linz. After that he was again a member of the city council for a few years. It is thanks to Sadlerder that the transition from monarchy to republic in Linz took place relatively smoothly. In addition, Sadleder was a member of the state party leadership and the Nazi party leadership, as well as chairman of the district party leadership of the Greater German People's Party initiated by Franz Dinghofer . Karl Sadleder held numerous other public offices and was, among other things, managing director of the Upper Austrian coal agency. He was also vice-president of the Mühlkreisbahn-Gesellschaft ( Mühlkreisbahn ) and president of the Upper Austrian Art Association . In the course of his life, Sadleder received various honors. In 1916 he was appointed chamber councilor, in 1919 an honorary citizen of the city of Linz and in 1923 a commercial councilor .

Sadleder died on October 13, 1930 at the age of 47 in his hometown of Linz; he had only been divorced from the Linz municipal council four years earlier.
