Karl Schmidhofer (theologian)

Karl Schmidhofer (born January 22, 1915 in Sexten in South Tyrol , † December 29, 2007 in Brixen ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and canon .

Life

Karl Schmidhofer studied theology and philosophy at the Collegium Canisianum , the international seminary in Innsbruck, and with Karl Rahner and Hugo Rahner , Josef Andreas Jungmann and Franz Lakner at the University of Innsbruck . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1938 and worked as a chaplain in Rodeneck and Toblach . After the Second World War he was from 1945 to 1955 as an educator and rain worked at Kassianeum in Bressanone. From 1952 to 1955 he was Caritas Director of the then diocese of Brixen .

In 1950 he received his doctorate in the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Innsbruck under Paul Gaechter as Doctor theologiae . From 1950 to 1955 he was a professor at the Vinzentinum in Brixen, from 1955 to 1967 he taught at the Philosophical-Theological University of Bressanone , at the same time the Episcopal Seminary of the Diocese of Bozen-Brixen . As an emeritus he taught philosophy until the winter semester 2005/2006.

From 1961 he was the cathedral ceremony at the Dom Mariae Admission to Heaven and St. Kassian in Brixen; he held the office until the early 1990s. In 1976 Schmidhofer became canon , from 1988 to 1991 he was dean of the cathedral and was mainly involved in the restoration of the Brixen cathedral.
