Athletic career

Soccer player

As a young player in his hometown, Trautmann played from 1946 to 1951 for the Erfurt-West sports community and their successors, SG Fortuna, the company sports community (BSG) KWU and BSG Turbine. In the 1951/52 season he was active in the East Berlin BSG unit Pankow . In 1952 he began studying sports at the Leipzig Sport University DHfK and was a member of the soccer team of the University Sports Association (HSG) DHfK Leipzig . In 1954 he rose to the third-class district league of Leipzig with the HSG . After a year-long interlude at SC Rotation Leipzig in 1956, Trautmann joined the district league team BSG Motor Suhl in 1957 . Neither in Pankow nor in Leipzig with rotation, he was one of the top division players . With Suhl he rose after only one year in the third-class II. GDR League at that time . After the Second GDR League was dissolved in 1963, Trautmann played with Suhl again in the district league for a year. He then ended his career as a football player.

coach

In 1971 Trautmann began his coaching career at FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder), the football center of the GDR Army Sports Association . In the 1975/76 season he coached the league team of FC Vorwärts with Jürgen Großheim and reached the final of the GDR soccer cup with her . The army team was clearly defeated by 1. FC Lok Leipzig 3-0. Since the league season with 12th place was disappointing, Trautmann was dismissed after only one year. From 1978 to 1982 he held the post of head coach at FC Vorwärts, responsible for the entire coaching area, but without responsibility for the actual game operation. In 1983 and 1984 Trautmann coached the Syrian national team .

After his return to the GDR, he took over on July 1, 1984 the coaching post of the second-rate GDR league team Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, who had hopes of a league promotion after a third place in the past season. After finishing second in his first season, Traumann's team crashed to tenth place in 1986, which resulted in his dismissal. At the start of the 1986/87 season, Trautmann moved to Halleschen FC Chemie, which had been waiting for promotion for two years after being relegated to the league in 1984. Trautmann managed to return the HFC to the top division within a year and surprisingly led the newcomer to fifth place in 1987/88. In the following seasons, too, Trautmann managed to secure relegation with Halle. The later successful players Dariusz Wosz , René Tretschok and Steffen Karl began their careers under his leadership . After a player revolt before the beginning of the 1990/91 season, Trautmann was dismissed from the HFC before the start of the season. He then returned to BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, whose team had been promoted to the league in the previous season. His job was to qualify for one of the professional leagues of the DFB game operations . The Eisenhüttenstädter, converted into the football club Stahl during the season , missed the qualification for the 2nd Bundesliga, but reached the final final of the GDR football cup . But even in his second cup final, Trautmann and his team remained without a win, Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl defeated the last GDR champions Hansa Rostock with 0: 1. This ended his activity in Eisenhüttenstadt.

From autumn 1991, Trautmann was a trainer at the Aurich sports association in East Friesland. He led the team in the Lower Saxony Association League to fifth place. He resigned during the winter break of the 1992/93 season.
