Karl Wackerbauer

Karl Otto Wackerbauer (born September 18, 1931 in Munich ; † November 9, 2015 ) was a German brewery engineer and university professor.

Life

Wackerbauer is the son of the carpenter Karl Wackerbauer; his mother Maria Wackerbauer, b. Krug, died three years after his birth, so that he grew up as a foster son with Uncle Michael Wackerbauer. In Munich he attended elementary school and the Rupprecht-Oberrealschule, from which he graduated in 1951 with the matriculation examination. He then completed an apprenticeship as a brewer and maltster in Nesselwang and Munich . After practical work in various breweries, he began studying to become a master brewer at the Technical University of Munich , Faculty of Brewing in Weihenstephan. After the brewing technical examination in 1957, he continued his studies to become a certified brewery engineer at the Technical University of Berlin , where in 1959 the main diploma examination took place.

Until 1962 he worked for the Andreas Brewery in Hagen and from the winter semester of 1962 he was a research assistant in the auditing department in the brewing technology advisory service at the Experimental and Training Institute for Brewery (VLB) in Berlin. From 1962 to 1966 he worked in the biological department of the VLB, where he prepared his dissertation. In 1967 he became a Dr.-Ing. With Siegfried Windisch at the Technical University of Berlin . PhD .

In 1970 he became head of the brewing technology advisory service and assistant professor for brewing technology at the TU Berlin. In 1975 he qualified as a professor and was appointed to the chair for brewery technology at the TU Berlin on July 1, 1977. In personal union, he also took on management positions at the experimental and training institute for brewery: In addition to his work as a researcher in the fields of brewery technology and biology, he remained particularly committed to theoretical and practical brewery training.

From April 1, 1989, Wackerbauer took over the role of Hanswerner Dellweg as Scientific Director of the Institute for Fermentation and Biotechnology . In the 1990s he made a significant contribution to the integration of his subject in the biotechnology course. After his retirement in 1999, he continued to work until his successor Frank-Jürgen Methner was appointed in 2004. His successor as Scientific Director of the Institute for Fermentation Industry and Biotechnology was Ulf Stahl in 1999 .
