In 1983 Jürgen Leinemann made the "backbencher" the central figure in a three-part series in the news magazine Der Spiegel . A quote from him has been reprinted several times nationally and internationally: "People can be roughly divided into three categories: The few who see to it that something happens, the many who watch something happen, and the overwhelming majority who do not Has a clue what's going on. "

After the federal election in 1987 , Weinhofer, who had always lost to Horst Seehofer (CSU) in the fight for a direct mandate in the Ingolstadt constituency , left the Bundestag. He first undertook some world trips and then worked for a short time at a vocational school in Nuremberg , but then left school prematurely and worked in the real estate and antique business. In October 1990, shortly before the next federal election , he moved up to the Bundestag for another two months when Konrad Porzner resigned from his seat and became President of the Federal Intelligence Service.
