Karl Wilhelm Georg Theodor Freiherr von Plettenberg-Heeren , from 1805 Freiherr von Bodelschwingh-Plettenberg (born July 28, 1765 at Haus Heeren ; † August 6, 1850 at Gut Drais ) was royal Prussian chamberlain , heir marshal of the county of Mark , Grand Commander of the German Order (Ballei Utrecht) and Grand Master of the Masonic Order .

Life

Karl came from the Westphalian noble family von Plettenberg . He was the only son from the marriage of Johann Adolph Friedrich von Plettenberg-Heeren (* 1725 in Heeren; † 1787 ibid) with his first wife Sophie Elisabeth ("Elise"), born von Lüdinghausen called Wolff zu Füchten (1745–1766) . His mother died shortly after he was born. In 1767 his father married Henriette Caroline von Plettenberg (* 1750 in Stockum ; † 1794 in Heeren), daughter of General Christoph Friedrich Steffen von Plettenberg- Stockum from the neighboring house Heyde near Unna . The two had four children.

From his father he took over the Fideikommiss Heeren and Schwarzenberg Castle . On August 19, 1788 he married Luise Freiin von Bodelschwingh (born August 23, 1766 at Haus Bodelschwingh ; † 1833 ibid.), Heir to Bodelschwingh and Sandfort . As niece of the last Vogt von Elspe , she had inherited the estates of Bamenohl , Borghausen , Oevinghausen , Schwerte, Werl and Westhemmerde ten years earlier .

In 1818 Karl bought the Draiser Hof winery near Eltville from Georg Herber . He thus had a considerable amount of real estate.

In 1805, with royal Prussian approval, Karl added the name and coat of arms of the von Bodelschwingh family to his own, thus establishing the line of the barons from Bodelschwingh-Plettenberg to Bodelschwingh. The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Gisbert Wilhelm (1790–1866), inherited most of his father's estates
  • Luise (born April 16, 1795), married Karl Freiherr von Nordeck (1793-1853) in Nordeck in 1818 and lived in Hemmerich Castle, which was acquired shortly afterwards
  • Adolf (* August 8, 1797), Lord of Sandfort, Sanden and Rechede, married Luise Freiin von Plettenberg-Heeren in 1827 (* November 17, 1806)

  • Wilhelmine (born December 13, 1809), married Karl Anton Freiherr von Plettenberg-Heeren zu Mehrum (1801-1857) in 1831

After the death of his wife in 1833, Karl married the 24-year-old Bertha Freiin von Plettenberg-Heeren (born November 15, 1808 in Sedan ; † 1845 in Bodelschwingh), daughter of his half-brother Adolf, in 1834 at the age of 69 . From this marriage the daughter Marie (born June 15, 1837) emerged, who later married the district administrator Ernst von Bodelschwingh and had 11 children with him.

Karl died on August 6, 1850 at the age of 85 on Gut Drais.
