Karl Wokalek
Karl-Albrecht Richard Wokalek (* 1949 in Soest ) is a German diplomat .
Life
After studying law and working for the European Commission in Brussels , Wokalek joined the Foreign Service in 1978 . From 1983 to 1986 he worked at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York . He then worked in the embassies of Kuwait and London until 1991, before returning to the Foreign Office until 1991. He then spent three years at the embassy in Pretoria and then from 1998 to 2001 head of the consulate general in Saratov, Russia . Until 2004 he did his service as head of department in Bonn before he again took over the management of a consulate general, this time in Japan for Osaka and Kobe . From 2005 to 2006 he was again in a leading position in the Federal Foreign Office before becoming ambassador to Kinshasa for a short time in 2007 .
In August 2007 he became head of the German liaison office in Pristina and the following year Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Pristina . Subsequently, Wokalek was Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Office and, from July 2010, successor to Rainald Steck as Chief of Protocol. In this role, Wokalek was appointed an officer of the Legion of Honor by the French ambassador Maurice Gourdault-Montagne on November 22, 2011 at the French embassy in Berlin . In August 2012 he handed over the office to Jürgen Christian Mertens .
Wokalek is married and has two sons. His brother Heinrich is the father of the actress Johanna Wokalek .
