Karl Wolf

Karl Wolf (born April 7, 1910 in Leibnitz , † January 8, 1995 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian philosopher , educator and university professor.

Life

Wolf attended the episcopal boys' seminar and the Graz Academic Gymnasium . He was a member of the new territory of the Catholic youth movement.

Wolf was married to the Germanist Dorothea geb. Jaklin and with her three had daughters Regina, Margarita and Franziska.

Scientific career

Wolf studied philosophy with Ernst Mally as well as German, Latin and folklore with Viktor Geramb at the University of Graz . In 1933 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1934 he passed the teaching examination in philosophy, German and Latin and taught as a high school teacher at the Neulandschule in Vienna, from 1936 at the St. Martin educational center and from 1938 in Graz. From 1940 to 1945 he did military service. In 1950 he qualified as a professor at the University of Graz for systematic philosophy and education. From 1960 to 1964 Wolf was professor of education at the University of Education in Regensburg and from 1960 to 1962 rector of this university. In 1964 he took over the chair for education at the University of Salzburg . In 1970 Karl Wolf accepted a professorship for "Applied Pedagogy / School Pedagogy" at the University of Vienna . He retired in 1979. In 1977 he was awarded an honorary professorship for education for life by the University of Salzburg.

" Biopedagogy "

Wolf was of the opinion that every person is faced with life tasks for which six biopedagogical educational goals can be formulated. These tasks are designed in such a way that they can count on a broad consensus even in a multicultural society, namely

  • the positive attitude towards one's own life
  • the positive attitude towards securing a livelihood through affirmation of work, fulfillment of duties and cultural achievement
  • the positive attitude towards fellow human beings through the individual coping with the problem of erosion and reproduction
  • the affirmation of and participation in community and global cooperation
  • striving for beauty in all areas and forms of life, which finds its fulfillment in the ethically good and in life as a whole
  • the expansion of the spiritual horizon in order to be active with far-sighted responsibility and thereby become more like God
