Karl Zech

Karl Zech (born February 6, 1892 in Swinoujscie ; † April 1, 1944 in Altenburg ) was a German SS group leader and a member of the Reichstag for the NSDAP .

Life

After graduating from the Realreformgymnasium in Swinoujscie, Zech joined the 3rd Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 62 in 1910. Promoted to lieutenant in 1911, he was a company commander in Infantry Regiment No. 62, Reserve Jäger Battalion 22 and 11th Reserve Infantry Brigade during World War I. After the end of the war, he was a member of the Landesschützenkorps, a volunteer corps, from December 1918 to June 1919 . From June to October 1919 he worked in the staff of Reichswehr Brigade 4. On October 1 , 1919 he was retired as captain, Zech worked in civil life as a commercial clerk, miner and mining clerk.

From 1921 to 1929 Zech was a member of the paramilitary military association Stahlhelm . On January 1, 1931, he joined the NSDAP ( membership number 48.563) and on January 19, 1931 the SS (membership number 4.555). From April 1, 1931, Zech led an SS storm in Essen and from October 6, 1932 to October 1, 1937, SS Section V there .

From 1932 to 1933 Zech was a member of the NSDAP in the Prussian state parliament ; on November 12, 1933 he received a seat in the Reichstag . From July 14, 1933 to October 1, 1937 he was police chief in Essen . On October 1, 1937, he took over the management of the SS Leadership Main Office within the SS Main Office for three years ; at the same time he was leader of the SD Upper Section East.

After the German invasion of Poland , Zech first became chief of police on September 27, 1939, and SS and police leader (SSPF) of Cracow on November 24 . On October 1, 1940, Zech retired from full-time SS service because he was deaf. He took over the post of commercial director and deputy operations manager at the Altenburg plant in Thuringia at the armaments company HASAG . He was expelled from the NSDAP on February 28, 1944 and from the SS on March 14, 1944. The background was the allegation of misappropriating groceries and ration cards ; therefore Zech was sentenced on April 1, 1944 by the Special Court of Weimar to four years in prison and loss of honor . Zech committed suicide after the verdict was announced.
