Karl von Blarer

Karl von Blarer (born August 7, 1885 in Duggingen ; † November 29, 1978 in Aesch , entitled to live in Aesch ) was a Swiss politician (CVP) .

Karl von Blarer, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, was born in Duggingen on August 7, 1885, the son of Arnold von Blarer and Marie, née Gerster. From Blarer, the middle schools in Stans and Schwyz completed, occupied then the study of rights in Freiburg and Basel , where he in 1909 to Dr. iur. PhD. He then joined as a lawyer in the law firm of his uncle Dr. Ernst Feigenwinter in Basel and continued to run it after his death in 1919. From 1953 to 1969 he presided over the Catholic regional church .

Karl von Blarer, who married Bertha, née Ziegler, in 1911, died on November 29, 1978 at the age of 93 in Aesch.

politics

Karl von Blarer acted as a co-founder and from 1913 to 1917 as the first president of the Baselland Catholic People's Party . At the cantonal level, von Blarer was represented in the Basel district administrator for over 50 years, namely from 1911 to 1962 . He was also a member of the Aesch municipal council during the 1920s and the National Council from 1928 to 1931 . Karl von Blarer had a decisive influence on the revision of church legislation and was feared in the council plenum because of his heckling. In addition, in the three constitutional councils for the reunification of the two Basels, he firmly advocated the retention of the two independent half-cantons.
