Karlheinz Müller (theologian)
Karlheinz Müller (born May 12, 1936 in Nuremberg ; † February 18, 2020 in Würzburg ) was a German theologian and Judaist .
Life
Karlheinz Müller studied Catholic theology at the University of Bamberg , University of Würzburg and University of Heidelberg . 1966 Müller was at Rudolf Schnackenburg specialist New Testament doctorate in Würzburg and in 1972 followed his Habilitation at the University of Graz . In 1982 Müller received his doctorate in Jewish Studies from the University of Cologne under Johann Maier .
From 1972 to 2004 Müller held the chair for Biblical Introduction and Biblical Auxiliary Sciences at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . Karlheinz Müller had retired in September 2004.
Müller was married to Brigitte Maria Müller since 1967; there are four children from the marriage.
Act
Müller's research areas were the origins and the historical development of early Christianity , early Jewish apocalyptic and the Halacha between the Persian period and the destruction of the Second Temple .
Müller was involved in researching the Würzburg Jewish stones from the very beginning: on January 9, 1987, numerous Jewish gravestones were found in the Pleich district of Würzburg when a former commercial building was demolished . The scientific research of the altogether 1455 tombstones, named as "Judensteine aus der Pleich", was completed by Müller and his colleagues from the Universities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Simon Schwarzfuchs , Rami Reiner and Edna Engel in 2012 with the publication of the third volume.
Müller was committed to ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. He was a member of the "Working Group for Questions of Judaism" at the Ecumenical Commission of the German Bishops' Conference and for many years the Catholic Board of Directors of the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation in Würzburg and Lower Franconia as well as scientific director of the museum opened in 2006 in the Community and Cultural Center Shalom Europe of the Jews Parish in Würzburg.
