history
During the construction of the new Rumburk – Sebnitz railway from 1872 to 1873, the baker and entrepreneur Karl Schütz (1829–1899) built a wooden hut in the valley of the Kunnersdorfer Bach, from which he cooked for the railway workers. After the work was completed, he began to provide refreshments to day trippers instead. The profit made in this way enabled him to acquire the valley with its forest, meadow and stream, which he named Karltal .
In 1904 Emil Schütz started construction of a new building with a dance hall, guest rooms, kitchen and stables . In 1910 and 1911, the family contactor was forced for financial reasons, Karltal to the city Schluckenau transfer ownership . In 1913 the city began to convert the restaurant building into a sophisticated spa hotel. The spa was maintained until the middle of the 20th century. After the Second World War , the spa hotel was used as a company holiday home. The spa hotel has been empty since the political change and is left to decay. At the beginning of 2017 the ruinous spa hotel including the 2 hectare spa park was sold; the new owners from Chrastava then began clearing work to restore the spa parks. The intention is to renovate the spa hotel and revitalize the spa.
