Karoline Graswander-Hainz (born February 2, 1974 in Zams ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Graswander-Hainz was Austrian member of the European Parliament from July 2015 to 2019 in its 8th electoral term .

education and profession

Karoline Graswander-Hainz was born on February 2, 1974 in the Tyrolean community of Zams in the Upper Inn Valley . She attended primary school in Pians , then the secondary school in Landeck , where she graduated from high school in 1992, and then the tourism college in Innsbruck . In 1993 she began her training as a primary school teacher at the Pädagogische Hochschule Tirol , which she completed in 1996 with the teaching examination for primary schools.

From 1996 Karoline Graswander-Hainz worked as a primary school teacher for 13 years before she accepted a position as primary school director at an primary school in Imst in 2009 . She held this profession until she moved up to the European Parliament in 2015. Graswander-Hainz also began studying educational sciences at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Innsbruck in 2014 . In 2019 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts ( BA ) degree .

Political career

Karoline Graswander-Hainz currently holds several functions in the SPÖ Tirol . Since 2013 she has been a member of the district women's executive committee in the Imst district , since 2014 a member of the state women's executive committee and also since 2014 a member of the state party executive committee of the Tyrolean SPÖ. In addition, she has been the district leader of the SPÖ Imst since 2014.

After her party colleague Jörg Leichtfried renounced his mandate in the European Parliament in June 2015 in order to become a member of the state council in the new Styrian state government , Karoline Graswander-Hainz took over the vacated Austrian mandate.

From July 9, 2015, she subsequently represented Austria in the European Parliament, where she was a member of the Committee on International Trade , the Delegation for relations with the Federal Republic of Brazil , the Delegation for relations with Mercosur and the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly Europe-Latin America. Politically, like all SPÖ representatives, she belonged to the parliamentary group of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats in the European Parliament .

After the European elections in Austria in 2019 , she left the European Parliament.
