The Karspitze (ital. Punta Quaira , 2517 m slm ) is a summit in the eastern Sarntal Alps in South Tyrol . The summit forms the end point of the side ridge that branches off to the east at the Liffelspitze from the eastern Sarntal main ridge. North of this ridge is the Flaggertal , south of the Schalderer Tal .
Seen from the east, the Karspitze is a very distinctive peak, there it shows a rugged rock face, which is framed by the southeast ridge and the sharp east ridge. The name of the mountain derives from the east lie below the summit Kar from. Due to the forward, open location, the summit offers a comprehensive panoramic view, especially of the relatively close Dolomites .
At the summit there is the inscription "Pock" on a stone. This is documented by the first tourist ascent by Julius Pock , who was out and about in areas neglected by other great mountaineers at the end of the 19th century and reported about it in alpine literature.
Routes
The simplest and shortest ascent begins east of the summit at Gostnerhof ( 1380 m ) above Spiluck, which can be reached from Vahrn . First it goes westwards on a marked trail through the forest to the Zirmeitalm ( 1891 m ). From there you climb a little towards the south in an arc until the path branches off at a signpost over the broad southeast ridge. This easy route takes about 3 hours to get to the summit . A slightly more demanding variant of this ascent leads pathless over the east ridge, which is also a bit difficult to reach from the Zirmeitalm ( I ).
An alternative, slightly higher starting point is the Wieserhof in the southeast of the mountain ( 1500 m ). From there you first climb northwest to the Kaserhütte and from there cross the southern slope of the Karspitze in an easterly direction until the ascent path above the tree line at the foot of the southeast ridge meets the path coming from the Zirmeitalm. This equally easy ascent variant roughly corresponds to that of the Gostnerhof in terms of time.
