Julius Pock
Julius Pock (* 1840 in Pressburg ; † February 3, 1911 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian alpinist .
Life
Julius Pock was born to Hungarian-German parents in Pressburg, today's Bratislava , in 1840 . From 1866 he lived in Innsbruck , where he ran a watchmaker's workshop in the Hötting district . From 1874 he was a member of the Innsbruck section of the Austrian Alpine Club and made a special contribution to building roads and huts as well as mountain rescue services . On October 20, 1878, he and four comrades founded the Alpine Society "Wilde Bande" at the Stempeljoch near Innsbruck, which pioneered the development of the Karwendel and Stubai Alps . Pock himself, known as "Spitz", made important contributions as chairman for many years through numerous first ascents . In particular, he was active in the Karwendel and the Sellraintal area in the Stubai Alps, where he was also very committed to the poor local population. In 1892, on his initiative , it was decided to build the begging hut . Julius Pock, who traveled a lot in his job as a watchmaker, also dealt with the culture of the German- speaking islands in Friuli and Trentino . In 1907 he was made an honorary member of the Innsbruck section of the Alpine Club. Julius Pock was married and had three children.
The Pockkogel in the Stubai Alps and the Julius-Pock-Weg from the Frau-Hitt-Sattel to the Vordere Brandjochspitze are named after Julius Pock .
