The Jakobsspitze (Italian: Cima di San Giacomo ) is with a height of 2741 meters the fourth highest peak in the Sarntal Alps and the highest on the eastern ridge of this group. The mountain is located northeast of Lake Durnholz . The slightly lower Tagewaldhorn ( 2708  m slm ) to the north is separated by the Flaggerscharte ( 2436  m slm ).

First ascent

It can be assumed that the Jacob's peak was entered by people very early, possibly by shepherds or chamois hunters. The first documented, so-called tourist ascent took place in 1880 by Julius Pock , who had a few first ascents in the Sarntal Alps, and Ludwig Purtscheller , for whom this summit was one of 1,700 summit ascents.

Routes

The Jakobsspitze is quite easy to climb. The Flaggerschartenhütte (also Marburger Hütte, 2481  m slm ) is ideal as a base . The Flaggerscharte near the hut can be reached either from the west, from Lake Durnholz, in about 2½ to 3 hours, or from the east from Mittewald through the Flaggertal in about 5 hours.

From the Flaggerschartenhütte the marked trail leads south over scree and Schrofen to the summit, the Lorenzenspitze towering in the ridge is bypassed on the west side. The summit can be reached from the hut in under an hour.
