The Frau Hitt ( 2270 m above sea level ) is a summit of the Nordkette , the southernmost mountain range of the Karwendel , which looks like a woman on a horse. The forecast has it that be at the top of the fossilized "Mrs. Hitt," a giant queen, who was known by their greed and their narcissism.
The prominent rock needle high above Innsbruck became a tourist trademark of the city early on. A spectacular wrapping of Frau Hitt by the packaging artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude ultimately failed because of the funds.
Allegedly, Frau Hitt was first climbed by Johann Georg Ernstinger in 1580 , and several times in the 19th century by unknown mountaineers. Frau Hitt is usually climbed via the west shoulder (one position III , otherwise II). Up to this shoulder there is a path from the east (II) and a slightly more difficult one (III +) from the west.
The Frau Hitt-Sattel ( 2235 m above sea level ) lies west of the Frau Hitt, where a transition from the Inntal to the Gleirschtal is possible (the insured descent to Frau Hitt-Kar is north below the Frau Hitt). Adjacent crossings: in the west the Erlsattel at the Solsteinhaus , in the east at the Hafelekar mountain station.
The Frau Hitt-Sattel is the intersection of the following hiking and climbing trails:
- after SO descent via the Schmidhubersteig , then either cross to the Seegrube ( 1905 m above sea level , a station of the Nordkettenbahn ) or descent via the Höttinger Alm to Innsbruck
- Hut tour from the Solsteinhaus via the Gipfelstürmerweg leading north of the western Nordkette to the Frau Hitt-Sattel, from there to the Seegrube and the Hafelekarspitze , from the Hafelekarspitze via the Goetheweg to the Pfeishütte
- to the NW descent through the Frau Hitt-Kar, Kleinkristental, Gleirschtal and the western Hinterautal to Scharnitz
- to the SW ascent to the Vorderen Brandjochspitze
- to NE starting or end point of the Innsbruck via ferrata
legend
The legend comes in different variations, a widespread one says that Frau Hitt only offered a beggar a stone to eat. The beggar thus mocked cursed the giantess and horse, who were then turned to stone as an eternal punishment.
The legend was first described in the magazine Morgenblatt in 1811 . In 1816 she appeared as Frau Hütt with the number 233 in the collection of German legends of the Brothers Grimm .
