action

The plot is based on the structure of the drama Reigen by Arthur Schnitzler . The structure of the dance is, one person meets another, has something with her, the second person in turn has something with another, who in turn has something with a new one, and so on, until the last person meets the first and so on Reigen closes. Puppeteers and poets meet on the bus to Vienna. The puppeteer tells the poet that he wants to surprise his girlfriend and little daughter, he will stay with them now and not go on tour for months. He tries to find out what the poet doesn't like about Vienna, but she only says that she hasn't been in the city for 20 years. He manages to persuade her not to just change trains, but to visit Vienna for a day. Both go through their day, the poet meets a bright young man in the café who not only fascinates her intellectually, but when she meets her ex-husband, the publisher, it becomes clear who the young man actually is; the return home of the puppeteer is delayed by the fact that he wants to negotiate a contract for his new play with his former lover, the theater director. The theater director sets the condition that from now on he has to look after their son. Best of all tonight! His friend, the make-up artist, sits at home and waits for him, she neither knows about his relationship with the theater director nor that the father of the theater director's son is her friend, the puppeteer. When the poet and the puppeteer meet again after 24 hours, nothing is like it was before.

format

Carousel is a 360 ° feature film shot from the perspective of the actors . The actors wear a helmet on which five cameras are mounted that record front, left, right, top and back. The actors took turns carrying the cameras. The resulting five films were cut and, after completion, shown in a specially developed room cinema. The room cinema consists of four walls plus a ceiling, the dimensions of the room cinema are 10 × 10 × 8 m. There is space for 70 spectators.

Filming the plot based on subjective experience is the backbone of the film Carousel, because when the protagonist's head is turned, the entire room rotates synchronously with five cameras. Through the subjective experience, actions can be physically experienced and the viewer experiences the events of the action just as the protagonists experience them. The audience is surrounded by the protagonists' experience.

production

The shooting took place in August and September 2014 in Vienna . In the outdoor shots, motifs that show the transition between old and new Vienna were primarily taken into account. In the theater scene, typical Viennese tourist motifs such as St. Stephen's Cathedral or the Vienna Ferris wheel can be seen as a backdrop .

Karussell was created without any public funding and was created by the production company Amiluxfilm.
