The city is located in the Qysylorda region on the right bank of the Syr Darya .

history

The city was founded in 1853 as a Russian fortification Сыр-Дарьинский форт № 1 on the instructions of the Russian Adjutant General Vasily Perovsky . In 1867, the resort has received city rights awarded was in Kasalinsk renamed (Казалинск) and was the administrative center of a circle (Ujesd) of the area of Syrdarya the General Government Turkestan within the Russian Empire appointed.
