Shangaqorghan ( Kazakh Жаңақорған , Russian Жанакорган Schanakorgan ) is a place in the Kyzylorda region in southern Kazakhstan .

geography

Shangaqorghan is located in southern Kazakhstan in the Qysylorda region . The place is about 100 kilometers north of Turkistan and about 200 kilometers south of Kyzylorda. A few hundred meters west of Schangaqorghan flowing through Syrdarya the otherwise arid desert region.

population

The 1999 census showed a population of 20,708 people for the place. At the last census in 2009, Schangaqorghan had 22,716 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2020, the extrapolation of the population resulted in a population of 28,222 people.

economy

There are ore deposits near the place. About 17 kilometers to the northeast is the Schalqija deposit, which is one of the largest deposits in the world with an estimated 113 million tons of lead and zinc reserves . Funding is scheduled to begin in October 2020.

traffic

The M32 expressway runs east of the town and leads north to Qysylorda and on to Aqtöbe and Oral to the Russian border and south to Turkistan and Shymkent .

Schangaqorghan station is on the Trans-Aral Railway .
