Street description

The M32 crosses the border to Russia not far from Shchuchkinos, northwest of Oral. On the Russian side, the road to Samara continues. In Kazakhstan, the M32 runs through the agricultural steppe and reaches the city of Oral, where the river of the same name, which forms the border between Europe and Asia, is crossed. The road then leads south-east over the desolate and almost uninhabited steppe, then turns east and after about 450 kilometers reaches Aqtöbe, a city with around 270,000 inhabitants, through whose inner city it continues. The guided tour through remote landscapes is in poor condition.

Between Aqtöbe and Chromtau , the road is partially developed with 2 × 2 lanes, although the traffic density does not require this. The M32 then runs parallel to the Russian border. At Qarabutaq , the M32 turns south-east and runs into the interior of Kazakhstan. The distances along the road are enormous, for example the length between Qarabutaq and Baikonur is more than 600 km, the number of facilities such as rest stations along this desolate desert are very limited. The M32 runs north of the Aral Sea and runs along the north side of the city of Äiteke Bi , then further east through the desert. Here the road is of moderate quality, neither paved nor equipped with lane markings or guard rails. The road runs through the Baikonur region parallel to the Syrdarya River .

The M32 passes 25 km south of the Baikonur spaceport , south of the route lies the city of Baikonur on the Syr Darya River. After 80 km you reach the town of Schossaly , where the Syrdarya is crossed. After the wilderness through which the road has so far led, there are now landscapes that are irrigated for agriculture, which makes the landscape greener, there are also more villages in this region. After 150 km, the route reaches Kyzylorda , a city of 150,000 people located on the Syrdarya River. The road leads south around the city as a bypass. Here you cross the river again, and there you cross the A17 in the shape of a clover leaf . The M32 continues through the steppe to the southeast. Past Schijeli , the landscape is a little greener again due to the predominant agriculture. The last part of the route is near Schymkent , which is reached after 2000 kilometers. Shymkent is a city with more than 650,000 inhabitants and one of the largest cities in Kazakhstan. The M32 ends at a junction with the M39 , the road from Almaty to Tashkent .

history

The M32 was originally part of the Soviet M32 that ran from Samara to Shymkent. While the road was of strategic importance to the Soviet Union, it was never modernized. It consists mainly of slabs of poor quality asphalt, but has no lane markings, delineators and lighting, which makes it dangerous to drive at night. The road is of great importance for the development of the Baikonur spaceport as it is the only trunk road into the area.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, most of the original M32 was in Kazakhstan, over 2000 kilometers of the original almost 2300 kilometers long Soviet route. Since then, the road has only been maintained and not modernized any further. Still, the route is essential for long-haul traffic between Russia and Kazakhstan.
