Oblys ( regions ):

The A17 is an important road in Kazakhstan . The road is a long east-west route from Kyzylorda in the south via Karagandy to Pavlodar to the border with Russia in the northeast.

Street description

The A17 begins in the southern city of Qysylorda on the Syr Darya River and the M32. The road goes north. For the first 400 km from Kyzylorda to Zhezkazgan there are no places of interest, nor does it cross a paved road and lead through the Karakum desert . Part of this route is a gravel road. In the town of Zhezkazgan, it crosses the A16 and then continues north-east. Over the long distance of Zhezkazgan to Qaraghandy (Karaganda) leads through the desert .

Karagandy is a pretty big city and it crosses the M36 and the A20. After Qaraghandy, the A17 leads in the northeast through the steppe to Pavlodar . There are a couple of small towns along the way. The access to Ekibastus crosses the A17 with a clover leaf. The A17 continues to Pavlodar, and sometimes there are surprisingly few junctions with back roads. One reaches the Irtysh River , where the town of Pavlodar is located. In Pavlodar it crosses the M38 and the A18. The A17 leads north from Pavlodar and ends at the border with Russia. On the Russian side there is a numbered road to Karasuk, where there is a connection to the R382 to Novosibirsk.

history

The A17 was renumbered in 2011. The road replaces the old Soviet A344 road. It is the longest A-road in the country with a length of over 1,500 km. The road runs through areas where there are few other roads, so it is of strategic importance. In 2010, parts of the route in the Karakum Desert were still unpaved. The A17 connects a number of larger cities in central Kazakhstan and is therefore of continuing interest.
