Street description

The A7 begins west of Üscharal on the A3, the trunk road from Almaty to Öskemen . The route usually runs south-east and is completely paved. North of the A7 is the Alaköl-See , a salt water lake , south of the route is a mountain range with mountains of up to 4,000 meters. In the area of Üscharal there is a lot of agriculture, the southeast part leads through a desert landscape with many rocks. The route ends at the border town of Dostyk and continues on the Chinese side as the S205 to the Lianhuo Expressway, about 80 km away .

history

The route follows the former Soviet A355, it is part of the old route. As part of the restructuring of the Kazakh road system, the designation A7 was assigned to this route in 2011. The A7 is not very important, there are no major cities along this route. However, it leads to the border with China, where there is a marshalling yard that is important for transit traffic near Dostyk , as the wide gauge (1600 mm) common in Kazakhstan is changed to standard gauge (1435 mm).
