Course of the road

The A9 is a main road in Kazakhstan , in the eastern part of the country. The road is an east-west route from Öskemen via Ridder to the border with Russia . It is 167 kilometers long.

Street description

The A9 is actually an extension of the A3 from Almaty and runs through the city of Öskemen. The road leads in a north-easterly direction to the Altai Mountains and reached the mining town of Ridder. The route climbs from Ridder to the border with Russia. In the south there is a ridge 2,500 meters high. The easternmost part of the route is a gravel road. The border with Russia is at an altitude of 1670 m above sea level.

history

The A9 was renumbered in 2011 and is one of the many branches of the A3 in Eastern Kazakhstan. The part between Öskemen and Ridder is part of European route 40 , the longest of the European routes.
