Chromtau ( Kazakh and Russian Хромтау ) is a city in northwestern Kazakhstan .

Geographical location

The city is located in the Aktobe region, not far from the border with Russia .

history

Chromtau was granted city rights in 1967.

economy

There are important chrome ore deposits in the vicinity of the city . The most important company is the "Vozhod" chrome and nickel mine Shevchenko of the Mechel group. The Kazchrome company also mines chrome ore here in the Donskoi mining and processing plant.

Sports

The city is home to the football club FK Gornjak Chromtau , which took part in the top division of Kazakhstan ( upper league ) from 1992 to 1995 .

The M32 road runs through the city .

Chromtau was at the end of a junction of the Orenburg - Tashkent railway line ( Trans-Aral Railway ). On October 18, 2003 the Chromtau - Altynsarino section in the Qostanai region was opened. This connects the northern regions with the west of the country.
