Algha ( Kazakh Алға ; Russian Алга Alga ) is a small town in northwestern Kazakhstan .

Location and importance

Algha is located in the Aqtöbe area on the banks of the Ilek River , 44 km south of the regional capital Aqtöbe and is the administrative center of the Algha district .

According to the current calculation (2020) the city has 20,494 inhabitants.

The place was granted city rights in 1961 and was called Alga (Алга) in Soviet times .

The largest employer in Algha was a chemical company that existed until the end of the 1990s for the production of fertilizer from phosphorus .

The A27 highway (Kazakhstan) runs through the city .
