Schijeli ( Kazakh Шиелі , Russian Шиели ; until 1995 Tschiili / Чиили) is a place in the Kyzylorda region in southern Kazakhstan .
geography
Schijeli is located in southwest Kazakhstan in the Qysylorda region . The place is a good 120 kilometers south of Qysylorda and 150 kilometers north of the city of Turkistan on the right bank of the Syr Darya . The area around Schijeli is strongly characterized by agricultural areas, which are supplied with water from the Syrdarja through numerous canals. The wide area is characterized by a desert landscape.
history
Schijeli was founded at the end of the 19th century. It was first named after a general in the Imperial Russian Army . On May 19, 1919, the village was renamed Tschiili. The population was mainly busy harvesting Saxaul , a shrub of the steppes and deserts of Central Asia . This was transported on to Central Asia and Russia.

The 1999 census showed a population of 28,621 people for the place. At the last census in 2009, Schijeli had 29,632 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2020, the extrapolation of the population resulted in a population of 32,056 people.

Economy and Transport
The M32 expressway runs north-east of the village and continues north to Aqtöbe and Oral to the Russian border and continues south to Turkistan and Schymkent . The road is also the E38 in the European road network.
Schijeli station is on the Trans-Aral Railway .
Uranium is mined in the region . The Irqol deposit is located around 30 kilometers to the northeast. The system located there went into operation in 2009 and is operated by Kazatomprom . Here uranium is extracted using the in-situ method ; the plant has a production capacity of around 750 tons per year. A cement plant was opened in Schijeli in December 2018.
