Shossaly ( Kazakh and Russian Жосалы ) is a place in the Qysylorda region in southern Kazakhstan .
geography
Schossaly located in southern Kazakhstan in the area of Kyzylorda around 130 kilometers north of the city of Kyzylorda on the right bank of the Syr Darya . This is used upstream for intensive agricultural irrigation; apart from these areas, the area is characterized by dry deserts.
history
Schossaly was founded in 1853 as a Russian fort. It was part of the so-called Syr Darya Line, a defense line of the Russian army that was built after the conquest of the Kokand Khanate . The place was first called Qarmaqschy (Қармақшы).
From the 1930s onwards, a large number of people lived in the place who were deported there from other parts of the Soviet Union. Among them were many Chechens , Koreans , Germans and Greeks . During the times of the Soviet Union there was an oil mill and an industrial company that manufactured parts for oil rigs.

The 1999 census showed a population of 18,997 people for the place. At the last census in 2009, Schossaly had 18,983 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2020, the extrapolation of the population resulted in a population of 18,307 people.

Economy and Transport
By Schossaly the expressway runs M32 , the further north to Aktobe and Oral leads to the Russian border and continues south to Kyzylorda and finally to Turkestan and Shymkent . Of these, the village branches off north from the regional highways R69, which on the right side of the Syrdarya over Schalaghasch and Terengösek runs up to Kyzylorda.
In the center of Schossaly is the local train station on the Trans-Aral Railway .
