Kaspar Bausewein , also Caspar Bausewein (born November 15, 1838 in Aub , † November 18, 1903 in Munich ) was a German opera singer (bass). He was a long-time bass singer at the Munich Court Opera . He achieved his greatest success in several Wagner premieres, but he was also well represented in the buffo subject.

Life

As the son of a tailor, Bausewein grew up in poverty. He discarded his intended professional goal as a primary school teacher when his voice was discovered by the court conductor Franz Lachner . From then on he learned from the Munich teacher Hartringer. With the help of his recommendation, Bausewein was able to make his debut as Sarastro in The Magic Flute at the Munich Court Opera in 1858 , where he worked on it for almost half a century.

His participation in four Wagner world premieres is one of his greatest successes. In 1868 he sang Veit Pogner in the Meistersingern , in 1869 the giant Fafner in Rheingold , in 1870 Hunding in the Walküre and in 1888 Harald in the posthumous world premiere of Wagner's youth opera Die Feen . In buffo games he achieved the greatest popularity as van Bett in Tsar and Zimmermann ( Lortzing ) and the Basilio in the Barber of Seville ( Rossini ). In 1900 he gave his farewell performance as Lord Cockburn in Aubers Fra Diavolo in Munich .
