Kaspar Friedrich von Rentzel

Kaspar Friedrich von Rentzel (born December 18, 1741 in Groß-Herzberg, † April 14, 1817 in Minden ) was a Prussian major general and most recently in command of the Minden fortress .

Life

His parents were the Prussian lieutenant a. D. Joseph Wolfgang Heinrich Eberhard von Rentzel († January 16, 1757) and his wife Katharina Elisabeth von Wedelstaedt († February 8, 1757).

Military career

He came to Berlin as a cadet on April 9, 1757 and became a private corporal in Infantry Regiment No. 31 on May 25, 1757 . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the sieges of Prague, Breslau, Olmütz and Dresden as well as the battles near Leuthen , Kunersdorf , Liegnitz , Torgau , Reichenbach and the battle near Fehrbellin. During this time he became ensign on May 26, 1760 and second lieutenant on October 26, 1761.

On February 22, 1771 he was Premier Lieutenant and on October 2, 1777 Captain of the Staff. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On March 4, 1782 he became a captain and company commander . In 1787, during the campaign in Holland , he took part in the battle of Amstelveen. On January 10, 1792 he became a major. In the First Coalition War fought in the cannonade of Valmy , the battle of Pirmasens and the battles of Kettrich, Bitsch, Limbach, Burrweiler and Ruppertsberg. In the battle at the Schätzel he was seriously injured by a shot in the leg. On November 4, 1794 he received the Pour le Mérite for Schätzel .

On May 20, 1800 he became a lieutenant colonel and on May 20, 1802 a colonel. On January 7, 1804, he was appointed commander of the 41st Infantry Regiment . But already on December 20, 1804 he was assigned to the III. Battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 9 transferred. He still fought in the Fourth Coalition War , but was made inactive with the surrender of the Hameln Fortress . From August 10, 1807, he received only half pay and on January 13, 1813, he left with a pension of 600 thalers.

On March 20, 1813, he became a district division of the Landsturm in the Ziesar district. On September 18, 1813, he was transferred to Minden Fortress as commandant. To this end, he received the character of major general on January 30, 1815 and was released from his duties on March 27, 1815. He died in Minden on April 14, 1817.

He married Anna Katharina Elisabeth Brüggemann in 1768 (* October 28, 1740; † February 4, 1816). The couple had several children:
