Kaspar Otto von Massow (born March 21, 1665 in Woblanse , Western Pomerania , † June 12, 1736 in Stettin ) was a Prussian administrative officer and minister of war.

Life

Kaspar Otto von Massow came from the Pomeranian aristocratic Massow family . He was the son of the district administrator of the Stolper district Kaspar Ewald von Massow (1629–1694) and his wife Katharina, the daughter of the Privy Councilor Georg von Zitzewitz. He attended grammar school in Neustettin and then studied law and political science at the universities of Wittenberg , Helmstedt and Leiden . Together with his older brother Jürgen Christoph, he went on educational trips to France , England and Italy between 1685 and 1688 . In 1692 he came as advice to the Pomeranian court in Stargard . From 1701 to 1726 he was the governor of the rural administrative district of Amt Rügenwalde . The soldier king gave him after the acquisition of Szczecin and Western Pomerania to the Peene leading all Vorpommern and behind Pomeranian state colleges . The only exception was the judicial system, which was administered by Philipp Otto von Grumbkow . Massow was significantly involved in the reconstruction of the Pomeranian lands, which were badly affected in the Northern War , and was appointed secret budget and war minister in recognition of his services. With organizational skills, he incorporated the area of ​​Western Pomerania ( Altvorpommern ) acquired by Sweden into the Prussian administration. In 1723 Massow was appointed chief president of Pomerania . In the same year the official seat of the administration was moved from Stargard to Stettin . During his last years in office Massow carried out an administrative reform. The offices and bailiffs were dissolved, and the district administrators were appointed heads of administration in their district.

In 1694 he married Marie Charlotte von Canitz (1680–1737), daughter of the Privy Councilor Joachim von Canitz and Anna Elisabeth von Weyler. He had two sons and four daughters with her, including:
