Joachim Ewald von Massow

Joachim Ewald von Massow (born October 19, 1697 in Bartin ; † October 27, 1769 ibid.) Was a Prussian Prussian state, war and finance minister, as well as a conducting minister for Silesia.

Life

family

Joachim Ewald (No. 250 in the gender census ) was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Massow . His parents were the Prussian-Pomeranian statesman Kaspar Otto von Massow (# 194; 1665–1736) and Marie Charlotte, née von Canitz (1680–1737). He married Elisabeth Sophia von Massow (1707–1778) in 1728. The marriage resulted in a daughter and three sons, including the district administrator in the Randow district and the West Pomeranian state director Carl von Massow (# 313; 1735–1807).

Career

Massow initially pursued an officer career in the Prussian army . In 1728 he was a captain in the "Schwerin" infantry regiment . He was promoted to major in the regiment in 1737 and lieutenant colonel in 1741 . He received his farewell in 1750.

As early as 1725 he was governor of Rügenwalde and canon of Cammin . In 1731 he became a knight of the Order of St. John .

In 1751 he became President of the Chamber in Königsberg i. Pr. And in 1753 appointed Real Secret State and War Council, Chief President of the Silesian Chamber as well as the Conducting Minister of Silesia. In 1754 he received the Order of the Black Eagle and the Johanniter-Kommende Supplinburg . In 1755 he asked for his release and received it. He died with the title of a Prussian Real and Secret Minister of State, War and Finance, also directing Minister of Silesia.

Property ownership

Massow had an extensive estate . From his father-in-law Ewald von Massow (# 189; 1667–1741) he inherited Bartin, Barvin , proportionally Treten, Gewiesen with the Vorwerk Grünhof and proportionally Rummelsburg in the Rummelsburg district , from his father he received Zezenow and Dargeröse in the Stolpeschen district in 1736 . He only owned some other former Zitzewitz fiefs for a short time. He sold his alloidal property Dobberphul in the Pyritz district in 1751 to Gustav Heinrich von Enckevort (1726–1807), who was to become Vice President of the Pomeranian government, for 37,000 thalers.
