Katagory V is an American power and progressive metal band from Salt Lake City , Utah , that was formed in 1999.

history

The band was formed in early 1999 by bassist Dustin Mitchell and guitarist Curtis Morrell. A short time later, drummer Matt Suiter and guitarist Ryan Taylor joined the cast. The members worked together on new songs, using old material from the members' former bands. Towards the end of the year, singer Lynn Allers joined the band, completing the line-up. From late 2000 to early 2001, the band recorded their debut album at Streamline Studios under the direction of Curtis Morrell . In early 2001, the band released the EP Present Day , which included five songs. As a result, the band reached a contract with Nightmare Records , so that Present Day was released as an album that contained five more in addition to the five already known songs.

In 2002 the band worked on new songs. Meanwhile, guitarist Ryan Taylor left the band, so that the band was only four people. The recordings took place from autumn 2002 to early 2003, with Morrell playing all the guitar tracks. In January 2003, when the recording was almost finished, Trevor Asire joined the band as the second guitarist. In the spring, the band finished recording and signed to Metal Ages Records while holding concerts with Meliah Rage and Nasty Savage . The band also played on ProgPower USA . Although the work on the second album had already been finished in July 2003, it was only released in January 2004 under the name A New Breed of Rebellion . In December, the band had previously separated from Trevor Asire. After the album was released, Marc Hanson joined the band as the new guitarist. The rest of 2004 the groups spent performing live and writing new songs. From the end of the year to the beginning of 2005, the band went into the studio with producer Mike Fowkes to record the album The Rising Anger . The work was finished in the summer. After the album was finished, the band played various concerts, including the Monsters of Metal with bands like Helstar and Agent Steel , with Leatherwolf guitarist Geoff Gayer playing with the band.

In 2006 the band signed a contract with Nightmare Records and released their next album, The Rising Anger, on April 25th. After the release, work on the next album began. The band then played a concert in Las Vegas with Leatherwolf before heading to the studio to record the album Hymns of Dissension in early 2007 . After the recordings were finished in spring, appearances followed along with bands such as Vicious Rumors and Agent Steel. The Rising Anger was released on Nightmare Records and in Europe on Burning Star Records . In January 2008 singer Lynn Allers and guitarist Marc Hanson left the band. In June, Al Rybka joined the line-up as the new singer. The band also played concerts with Lydian Sea and Mindwarp Chamber . Shortly after these performances, drummer Matt Suiter left the band in October. While the band was looking for a replacement for Suiter, work on the next album began. In January 2009 bassist Dustin Mitchell announced that both guitarists Curtis Morrell and Mike Thirot, who had only recently joined the band, had left the band. The new album was almost finished, but Morrell had taken half of the songs with him, so the album could not be completed for the time being. Matt "Bizzaro" Lefevre joined the band as the new drummer. The recordings for the new album took place in Mitchell's basement studio. In May 2009 the new line-up of the band was announced. In addition to bassist Mitchell, the band now consisted of singer Al Rybka, drummer Lefevre and guitarists Darrin Goodman and Kris Krompel. In the summer of 2009 the band recorded a few demos for the new album. In December Darrin Goodman left the band and was replaced by Marc Hanson, who returned to the band. In January 2010 the band held a few concerts and announced that the new album would be called Resurrect the Insurgence . The recordings for this began in April 2010.
